"John Russell was in Guilford County, North Carolina during the Revolutionary War and furnished sundries for the Militia of North and South Carolina and Virginia as allowed by Brown and McKissick, Auditors of Salisbury District in November, 1781 as P. Report No. 40. From accounts of United States with North Carolina, War of Revolution, Book A, Page 189.(From North Carolina State Department of Archives and History.)"
